With winter barely making an appearance in Vail Valley this year, it’s time to fast-forward to one of the most exciting seasons in this corner of the Rockies.
Say hello to spring and everything that comes with it. Beer, wine, and music fill the air. The valley turns a vibrant green. And a packed calendar of festivals draw visitors from around the country, starting with our favorite: the beloved GoPro Mountain Games.
Mark your calendar for an adrenaline-fueled celebration that perfectly captures everything we love about spring in Vail.
GoPro Mountain Games June 4–7
For four days, Vail Village transforms into the epicenter of outdoor sports, gear, and pure mountain culture.
Athletes compete in trail running, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, slacklining, and even fishing. For spectators, the experience is just as immersive. Fans line the rivers and trails, getting up close to the action. Throughout Vail Village, vendor booths showcase the latest outdoor gear, often at discounted prices, while live music keeps the energy high all day long.
Elite Athletes + Everyday Adventurers
It’s rare to find an event where spectators can jump in and compete but this is one of them. World-class athletes go head-to-head on the trail or river while amateurs and weekend warriors take on their own challenges alongside them. Don’t be surprised to see world-class athletes and GoPros wandering the village in search of the perfect POV. If you’re not quite ready for a 20K trail run or whitewater rafting there are plenty of ways to get involved, including the Kids Mini Dash, Nature Valley Mountain Mud Run, Mountain Groove Yoga, and even a kids’ kayak pool.

The Crowd-Favorite: Dog Events
Dogs are a huge part of the Games with almost a third of the competitions devoted to furry friends showcasing their incredible canine athletics by competing in big air jumps, speed retrieves, and vertical leaps.
One of the most wildly entertaining competitions is the DockDogs Big Air event. Dogs sprint down a dock and launch into a pool, chasing their favorite toy. Crowds gather along the edge of the water and cheer every leap.
If you’re bringing your own pup, it’s the perfect chance to soak in the excitement together and maybe even join the BFGoodrich Rocky Dog Fun Run. If you’re still looking to add a furry friend to your crew, be sure to stop by the Eagle County Animal Services tent in the village to meet their adorable adoptable dogs.
Some Events are Super Quirky
From slacklining to mud runs and mountain bike races through town, there’s a playful side to the GoPro Games that keeps athletes and crowds entertained. While offbeat events see dogs soaring through the air, you’ll get the chance to see kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders tackle freestyle maneuvers, timed obstacle courses, and sometimes unexpected water surprises. Don’t miss the Kayak Freestyle, where the Vail Whitewater Park “plays host to unfathomable tricks and a rowdy crowd as competitors throw down in the Gore Creek”.
Free Concerts & Festival Vibes
Beyond sports, the GoPro Games extend into a full-on festival atmosphere, with live music as the backdrop. By day, a mix of upbeat vibes with daytime DJ sets keeps the energy high in Vail Village and Golden Peak.
As the sun sets, the energy shifts to the iconic Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater (known locally as “The Amp”) for the Mountains of Music concert series. Headlining the weekend is the Allman Betts Family Revival in the Rockies, a collaboration led by Devon Allman and Duane Betts, celebrating the legacy of Southern rock with an all-star lineup. Supporting acts like Eric Krasno & Friends bring a high-energy mix of funk, soul, and improvisational jams, while artists like Wilderado, Michael Marcagi, Steph Strings, and Mountain Grass Unit round out the lineup with a blend of indie rock, folk, and bluegrass influences.
The Mountains as a Backdrop
Set against the backdrop of late spring in the Rockies, it’s that perfect in-between season while the valley comes alive with warmer days, green trails, and bluebird skies
Everything happens right in the heart of Vail, making the GoPro Mountain Games a true one-of-a-kind experience. With Gore Creek rushing through the village, mountain views in every direction, and an electric energy in the air, the setting is just as memorable as the events themselves.
