Hi everyone! My name is Tess Johnson. I am 24 years old, and I was born and raised right here in the Vail Valley of Colorado. I first learned to ski on Beaver Creek Mountain with my family when I was just 2 years old, and I instantly developed a passion for the sport. I began competing in freestyle mogul skiing when I was 9 years old, and soon after set my sights on the dream of winning gold at the Olympics for Team USA – a dream I know I share with many others. Since then, my life has revolved around skiing, training, and competing. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Making the U.S. Ski Team at 14 years old, competing in the 2018 Olympics, and winning my first World Cup at 17 years old are a few of my biggest achievements in the sport. However, one of my personal favorite career milestones was winning the bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships in Utah, as I love competing there. I have also recently relocated full-time to Sale Lake City for year-round training, so competing there now feels very familiar.
I train and compete for 10 months out of the year – not just in Utah or at home in Vail, but all over the world. I love the opportunity that this sport has provided for me to not only make many meaningful connections with other people in this arena, but also to see some amazing places and cultures. In the last year alone, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and all over North America doing what I love. When I’m not traveling and competing, I’m continuing my education as a student of the Harvard Extension School and enjoying the outdoors and great company at home with family as my favorite pastime.
I am so grateful for all the experiences I’ve gained from mogul skiing that have taught me more about myself than I could have imagined at my age. It has been incredible having the community of Edwards and the greater Vail Valley of Colorado stand alongside me, and I am so proud to say I come from here. Thank you to everyone, especially the Inn at Riverwalk, for following along and being a part of my journey!
Keep up with me:
