Leaf Peeping in the Vail Valley

Welcome to Edwards, Colorado, where the vibrant colors of autumn transform the Vail Valley into a stunning natural canvas. As you settle in at The Inn at Riverwalk, we invite you to explore some of the best spots for leaf peeping and photography, all just a short drive—or bike ride—from your cozy home base. Here are our top picks for an unforgettable fall experience:

  1. Piney River Ranch: Just a scenic 1 hour drive from The Inn at Riverwalk, Piney River Ranch is a hidden gem perfect for capturing the breathtaking beauty of fall. Golden aspens reflecting in the calm waters of Piney Lake, all framed by the majestic Gore Range, create a picture-perfect scene.
  2. Booth Falls Trail: About 25 minutes from our doorstep, Booth Falls Trail in East Vail is a favorite for those who enjoy a good hike paired with stunning views. The trail winds through dense aspen groves that glow in shades of yellow and orange during the fall. The Best Time to Leaf Peep

The Vail Valley is one of Colorado’s best spots to experience fall. Colorful autumn views can be enjoyed from Beaver Creek’s hiking trails, the Edwards Riverwalk and even at the center of the Vail Villages. With the Eagle River running right next to The Inn at Riverwalk, you can grab a hybrid bike from the Gear Garage and explore the season change on an afternoon bike ride.

The Vail Valley’s Aspen trees begin to change colors the first week of September and usually reach their peak at the end of September into the first week of October. We recommend visiting the last week of September for optimal leaf peeping season.

After a day of exploring, there’s nothing better than returning to the comfort and warmth of The Inn at Riverwalk. Relax by the fire, share your favorite Polaroid snapshots with friends, or unwind in our cozy rooms—your perfect fall retreat in the heart of Edwards.
