3 Day Road Trip

The Rocky Mountains of Colorado host some awesome sites and activities for the quintessential American road trip. To help you make the most of your visit, we’ve put together a 3-day itinerary jam-packed with adventure and local eats.

Edwards is your jumping off point!
Located in the Vail Valley, Edwards is the perfect destination to enjoy everything the Vail Valley and Glenwood Springs has to offer. Away from the large crowds of Vail Village and Beaver Creek, this small town offers a pedestrian Riverwalk with lodging, shops, and dining all within walking distance. It's the perfect jumping off point for a 3-day adventure in the mountains!

DAY 1 (Edwards)

Day 1 Activity 1: Rent bike from The Kind and mountain bike Berry Creek Trail
When you stay at the Inn at Riverwalk, take advantage of 20% off a mountain bike rental and explore the popular Berry Creek Trail in Edwards. This loop is about 4 miles with a fun and flowy downhill descent after a challenging 1,000-foot climb.

Day 1 Activity 2: Rafting with Sage

Day 1 Dinner: Zino Ristorante

Day 1 Activity 3: Shop in the Riverwalk
The Riverwalk in Edwards offers a beautiful pedestrian experience with shops of all kinds. Pick up some hiking shoes at Ptarmigan Sports or a book at the Bookworm to read on your trip.

DAY 2 Glenwood Springs

Day 2 Breakfast: Riverwalk Theater

Day 2: Activity 1: Iron Mountain Hot Springs
Take in the beautiful views of Glenwood Canyon on this 45-mile drive from Edwards to Iron Mountain Hot Springs. Soak in the small pools of different temperatures alongside the Colorado River.

Day 2 Lunch: Grind
Fuel up at this local burger joint known for their grass-fed, locally sourced beef. They have more than 10 burgers on the menu, including different ingredients like black beans, tuna, beef, buffalo, chicken and lamb.

Day 2 Activity 2: Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park
Situated on the top of a mountain, this park is known for its award-winning rides and spectacular caves and it is a unique and family-friendly theme park that soars above the rest. 

Day 2: Dinner: Pullman
Stop for dinner at this iconic Glenwood Springs Restaurant. The Pullman is a new breed of American eatery with superior food and service, pairing imaginatively simple food and wine with caring hospitality, comfortable surroundings and exceptional value.

Day 2: Activity 3: Bonfire Brewing
On your scenic drive back to Edwards from Glenwood Springs, swing by this staple brewery in Eagle, CO. Bonfire Brewing has been serving up tasty brews since 2010. Try one of their staple beers, Kindler Pale Ale or Firestarter IPA, or one of their inventive rotating tap beers.

DAY 3 (Edwards/Avon)

This bookstore and cafe is a staple in The Riverwalk in Edwards. Sip an artisan coffee and savor one of their delicious crepes, smoothies or toasts. As a guest of The Inn, enjoy a free drip or cold brew coffee with the purchase of a book. 

Day 3 Activity 1: Fly Fishing with Vail Valley Anglers
Spend the day on the water by boat or wading with this premier fly fishing company. Discover the abundant fisheries of the Vail Valley and fish on the Colorado, Eagle or Roaring Fork River.

 

Day 3 Lunch: Craftsman
Enjoy lunch at this Edwards eatery that balances artisan expertise with everyday approachability, centered around a menu that takes risks in re-imagining the greats. Think BLTs built with unctuous smoked pork belly. Tempura-fried squash blossoms stuffed with pimento cheese and accented with sweet pepper jelly.

Day 3 Activity 2: Golf
Spend the afternoon on the links at the Eagle-Vail Golf Club! This 18 hole course is integrated with rivers, streams, ponds, wetlands, forests, and gardens. The Inn offers a Golf Package that will provide you with discounted golf and room rates!

Day 3 Dinner: Juniper
Juniper Restaurant, located steps from The Inn, is the confluence of Contemporary and Seasonal Cuisine. The restaurant replicates a city bistro relocated to the mountains, a “sure bet” after a hard day’s play in the mountains. Menu items include premium steaks, seafood dishes, and a variety of salads and inventive appetizers. 

Day 3 Activity 3: Cocktail at The Rose
Finish your last day with a craft cocktail at The Rose, next door to Juniper Restaurant and The Inn. The extensive drink menu includes perfectly concocted cocktails made by expert mixologists. Kick back with a classic Old Fashioned or a Mule, Spritzer or one of the many other special cocktails.
